Library Card Policy

Created July 2021 Adopted by the Jamaica Memorial Library Board of Trustees in July 2022.

All children starting in Kindergarten and up are allowed their own library cards with parent/guardian approval.
Jamaica Memorial Library does not censor materials being checked out to children or teens
We do expect the current and updated contact information of the parent/guardians to be in touch for overdue materials.
Parents/guardians are responsible for their children’s materials. Please discuss with your children good places to keep their materials so they don’t get lost in the shuffle of their other belongings.

All materials have a two-week checkout policy. You may contact the library by phone or email for the renewal of materials. Renewals may not always be able to be honored if a particular item has a wait list.
Card holders also have access to our Interlibrary Loan system. If we don’t have a book you’re seeking, we can certainly request it from a different library. You will be responsible for following the guidelines of returning it on time or replacing the item if it is lost.
We have two public computers available to all. On our library card contract it is left for the parent to sign if it is okay for their children to have access. These computers have the internet and are not monitored in any way.
Our printer is also available to all patrons. We charge 10 cents per B&W page and .25 per Color page.
In the summer months, card holders have access to passes to certain attractions around Vermont, as well as, Vermont State Park Passes and Historic Site Passes for check out. In the winter months, we offer snowshoes for adults and children for check out. Visit our website for our Passes & Snowshoes check out policies.
We don’t charge for late fees or overdue items, this is by donation. However, we mail out bills for materials that are lost. If materials are found and brought back these charges will also be expunged.
